Musculoskeletal Disorders: Knee
Appendix E: Discussion of Surgeries
Most of the research related to knee injuries is research comparing short-term and long-term outcomes after various procedures: allograft (tissue transplanted from another donor) vs. autograft (tissue transplanted from one part of the body to another of the individual), meniscal repair versus meniscectomy, type of implant, etc. However, there is no information that would allow one to predict the future longevity of the repair/injury. Implants and techniques are always changing and all of the research represent lagging indicators. There is also no role for the police physician in determining if the LEO should undergo a specific surgery.
