Lip-reading

Reliance on lip-reading and/or speech reading will not allow the LEO to perform many of the hearing-dependent EJTs because the speaker may not be visible to the officer. Also, many of the auditory cues that are important to safe functioning are not verbal cues or necessarily visible. Testing must avoid the use of lip-reading.
